School Fun Day – Junior Classes

The Junior classes had their School Fun Day on Thursday 17th June, followed by the Senior classes School Fun Day on Friday 18th. These days were organised in lieu of the usual school tour day, which did not take place this year due to Covid-19.

There was great excitement in Junior Infants, Senior Infants, 1st class, 2nd class and Ms. Sinnott’s class of VIPs on that Thursday morning as puppeteer, Julie-Rose set up her booth in preparation for her show, which had all the traditional theatrics necessary to thrill and delight young children. Junior and Senior Infants brought their teddies on a big adventure up to the St. Martin’s pitch where they had lots of fun and games and a Teddy Bear Picnic! Meanwhile, 1st and 2nd class enjoyed dancing, bubble blowing, building blocks, air hockey, hula hooping and playing giant Snakes and Ladders outdoors while the sun shone! After all that activity, the Junior classes were eager to tuck into their food – a special delivery from McDonald’s. At the end of the day they all went home, tired and happy!

Spectacular Sports Day!!

Today saw the pupils of Piercestown NS enjoying their sports day. There was tremendous excitement and enthusiasm all day from both pupils and staff. Mrs. Sinnott and Mr. Murphy again began the day with our ‘Wake Up and Shake Up’ to get the hearts racing before the festivities began. Pupils got the chance to dance to a DJ, stretch & grow, take penalties, take part in an obstacle course, fun races and play some Canadian kickball, basketball, tag rugby and no-mans land. After a very tough year it was great to see all the happy faces on both the pupils and staff faces. It is days like today that are so truly important in the school year.

Bowled over!

Today we returned to the sunshine and got back into our stride for active week. Again, Ms. Sinnott and Mr. Murphy put us through our paces during ‘Wake Up and Shake Up’ this morning. We then were very lucky to have Herbie Honohan and Peter Hudson on hand to introduce and teach us about cricket. The children got to learn about what the sport is about, the equipment used, honed their skills in catching games before finally getting out onto the field and playing some QuickCricket. Information on the cricket can be found on our previous blog post.

For some lucky classes we were also delighted to welcome Karen Mooney to the school and her fitness class. It was great to work out in the sun especially to some catchy songs. Some of the staff even took part with Mr. Murphy and Pat deciding to maybe cut down on the treats at home after it. It was a really great experience for all and we thank Karen for offering her time to the school.

Today we also had the cones and markers out as some classes took on the long jump. Pupils had to see how far could they leap without hitting the foul line. It was very competitive and we saw some tremendous jumps. Well done to all who took part.

Wexford Wanderers Cricket Club

Hello everybody!

We would like to say a huge thank you to Herbie for coming to our school this week for active week. The kids from all classes had a truly wicket day. We were bowled over by the enthusiasm of the kids and the staff didn’t even bat at an eye as their behaviour was superb. If anybody is interested in getting their child involved in cricket you can see the information below.

Shake it off!!

Today we got our groove on for active week. Again, Ms. Sinnott and Mr. Murphy put us through our paces during ‘Wake Up and Shake Up’ this morning. We then were very lucky to have Wexford GAA player Seamus Casey on hand to teach us some fantastic football skills. Our headline act for the day was Rachel Condon and her dance routines. It was great to be shown some new dance moves and learn some fun games to music too. It was a really great experience for all and we thank Rachel for offering her time to the school.

Today we also had the benches out once more to test the pupils in a step up challenge. Pupils had to see how many steps up and down they could get. It was very competitive and tiring too. Well done to all who took part. We continued to search for the best limbo-er in the school at lunch time.

Plank you very much!

Today began our Active week here in Piercestown NS. We began our day with ‘Wake Up and Shake Up!’ outside led by some very talented dancers from all the classrooms. The Junior end of the school got all pumped up in their warm up before getting to do the Cha Cha Slide. The Senior end of the school followed Ms. Sinnott’s lead and enjoyed their energetic ‘Waka Waka’ dance.

Our headline act today was of course Niamh Boggan of Body Feels Yoga (https://www.facebook.com/bodyfeels/) (https://www.instagram.com/body_feels/). The pupils of Piercestown got to stretch every muscle in a fun and enjoyable way before settling down and finding some inner peace through meditation. Everybody seemed to watch their worries drift away and find a new sense of energy afterwards. However some of the staff found it difficult to wake themselves up from their meditative sleep. It was a really great experience for all and we thank Niamh for offering her time to the school.

We also had the balance beams out again today testing the classes ability to find their balance even with a strong breeze blowing. However after the yoga the pupils showed how light and relaxed they now were. We also had the limbo sticks out at lunchtime and began to find Piercestown’s best limbo-er. We will see over the next few days who can really limbo, limbo, limbo.
