DREAMM

Keeping the DREAMM alive!

Pupils from Piercestown N.S. linked up with pupils from Mayglass, Curracloe and Rathangan National Schools to record Amhrán na nAoirí (Song of the Shepherds) on Monday 2nd December in Mayglass Church.  This was recorded as part of ‘Creative Clusters’ – a Dept. of Education initiative.

Our theme is ‘Drop Everything and Make Music’ and this is certainly what we did on the day.  Twenty pupils from 5th and 6th class headed to Mayglass Church to record ‘Amhrán na nAoirí’ which was written by the late Sue Furlong, a well-known Irish composer, conductor and song-writer who was a native of Co. Wexford.

We used professional musicians and a producer to help us to record the song.  This song will be entered into the ‘Lyric FM Choirs for Christmas Competition’.  The recording will soon be available on the Lyric FM Website for everyone to hear.  Should we be fortunate to have our piece selected and played during Evelyn Grant’s programme on Lyric FM, this will be aired between 16th and 20th December at 1pm where ‘special choirs for Christmas’ will be featured.

We take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the parents who provided lifts to Mayglass, to the Mayglass Student Council who provided us with hot chocolate and marshmallows.  Last but not least we extend a big ‘thank you’ to the musicians involved, the producer and to Bernadette Leahy, Principal of St. Fintan’s Primary School, Mayglass, who made this possible.

We hope you enjoy the video which was made during the rehearsal.
