If you are worried about the impact school closure may have on your child’s education, Piercestown N.S. has compiled the following selection of activities:

Junior Classes (Infants – 2nd)
 

Junior and Senior Infants

·         Read a book/ listen to a book being read

·         Discuss what the story was about, what was your favourite part

·         Listen to the story  Mr Small – A Big Day Out

·         Draw 3 things that are bigger than me.

·         Draw 3 things that are smaller than me.

·         Play a game of hanging monkeys to revise your sounds and early reading

1st and 2nd Class

·         Listen to story ‘Garbage Barge’ read aloud at http://www.storylineonline.net/books/garbage-barge/.

o    Tell students to pay close attention to the illustrations during the read aloud.

o    As the story is read, stop the video to discuss aspects of the illustration and how it tells what is happening on that page.

o    After listening, discuss the illustrations and how they compare with other illustrations they have seen in other stories.

o    Students write 5-8 sentences about the story. Did they like the story? Why/why not? Did they like the illustrations? What was their favourite part of the story?

·         Write a procedure of how to make a snowman (make sure to include Aim, You will need, Steps, Did it work?)

·         Design a poster advertising our ‘Book Fair’ at Piercestown N.S.

Senior Classes 3rd -6th
·         Read the next chapter of a book/novel

·         Choose 3 of the following to complete

1.      Compose five questions you would like to ask the main character of the book or the author of the book

2.      Choose  five suitable birthday presents for a character in the book and explain why you chose them

3.      Pick out five interesting words from the chapter and write a sentence to show their meaning

4.      Write you own ending for the chapter

·         Complete the next Monday section in your Mental Maths book
