Rackard League Football Final – here we come!

There was an air of anxiety around Piercestown N.S. and Murrintown N.S. as the boys prepared to play the replay of the semi final.

Conditions were much better than the last day, hours of training had been clocked up over mid term, jerseys were washed, dried and ready for wearing, all that was needed was a victory to get us to the final.

Piercestown got off to a great start with a super goal  by David Cantwell after just a few minutes. But Gorey are never a team to be beaten easily and they continued to play with the energy and effort that has seen them win so many times over the last few years. The half time whistle blew and Piercestown were leading 1-2 to 2 points.

But Gorey were not holding back. They scored the first point after half time to bring it back to within two points. Piercestown’s passion and hunger for this game drove them on to produce another two goals by David Cantwell and Killian Barry to put Piercestown in a nice position with a lead of 3-2 to 3 points. But Gorey haven’t been champions for the last few years to lie down at that point. They kicked on and soon were racking up the points, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. With just one point between the teams Piercestown had to invest every ounce of energy to hold on to what could only be described as an epic win!

So 2014 sees Piercestown march on to the Rackard League football final versus Horeswood. Time and venue to be confirmed.

A huge thank you to all parents who both transported and supported the boys today. It is great to get another day out!
