Pupils from Piercestown N.S. linked up with pupils from Mayglass, Curracloe and Rathangan National Schools to record Amhrán na nAoirí (Song of the Shepherds) on Monday 2nd December in Mayglass Church. This was recorded as part of ‘Creative Clusters’ – a Dept. of Education initiative.
Second class had one of its best Science Weeks ever this year. This was most definitely due to the level of participation and enthusiasm shown by the children. So many of them brought in materials and equipment from home to wow the class with their experiments. Well done boys and girls!!!
Science Week kicked off with gusto on Monday 11th November. Tuesday 12th November saw all classes don their wooly hats and coats and take to the courtyard to plant some daffodil bulbs.
We look forward to springtime when we reap the rewards of our efforts.
Special thanks to Mary and Hugh who give up their time so willingly each year to assist the children in this much loved activity.

5th and 6th class put on a mini Sing Out Loud concert in the PE hall for the rest of the school yesterday and they were fabulous! We are so looking forward to their upcoming performance on Monday 11th in Wexford Opera House. Here’s a sneak peak of our stars this year!!!
With just days to go for the opening night of Sing Out Loud, we are adding the link to our blog so our superstars can practise a little bit more!
We are so excited about seeing 5th and 6th class steal the show!

Maths Week is always an exciting and fun-filled learning event for all and this year was no exception! Our budding mathematicians enjoyed a wide variety of activities, from old favourites such as Tables Bee Champion and Countdown, to new activities such as Make 4. Each class had their own session of in-class maths activities throughout the week which included Tangrams, Pentominoes, Connect 4, Marble Run, Card games, Snakes and Ladders and much more. Many thanks to our parent volunteers who came in to assist us each day. We had competitions galore also – guess the weight of the pumpkin, guess how many jelly beans are in the jar and solve the problem of the day. In keeping with tradition the week finished off on Friday 18th with a Monster Maths Quiz. The lucky prize winners of the various different competitions will be announced this coming Friday at a prize giving ceremony. Congratulations to our Tables Bee champions – Rianna Gooden and John Kenny, our Countdown champion – Zakk Casey and the winning Monster Maths Quiz teams who will also receive their prizes on that day. Here’s a flavour of what we got up to!
