The County Community Games Chess Competition takes place on Thursday 9^th February.

Teams of 5 are required and can be All Girls, All Boys or Mixed. The Age Categories are U13 & U16.

Many thanks to all who returned the uniform questionnaire.

As outlined, the wearing of a uniform is a parental decision. A democratic vote took place with the following results:

Yes we would like a uniform – 40          No  we would not like a uniform- 49

Therefore, as it stands Piercestown National School will remain without uniform for the present. 

Wexford Chess have their bi -annual Chess Tournament next Saturday, 21st January in the Brandon House Hotel, New Ross.

€10 entry fee ( includes lunch)

Congratulations to 5th class and Ms. Cooney on representing their school so well yesterday. A fantastic day was had by all. Many thanks to the parents for their assistance.  It was a day to be proud of!

***NEW****Sunny Days Homework Club open in January 2017

The Board of Management have taken the initiative to set up a homework club in Piercestown National School.  Sunny Days Homework Club provides a facility for children to be minded, have their written homework completed and have fun on the grounds of Piercestown National School. The expression of interest form sent out,  returned a good response. If you wish your child to avail of their place you must contact Debbie Devereux on 089-2277151.  Sunny Days homework club will begin on Monday January 9^th 2017. We look forward to hosting the homework club here and hope that it is an addition to our school community.

5th class will make history in Piercestown National School by travelling to the RDS in Dublin on Thursday January 12th to exhibit their experiment ‘ Does adding a substance to water change the rate at which skin wrinkles?’

This has been a major work in progress over the last few months with the children using all their science skills of – observation, questioning, predicting, estimating and measuring, experimenting, recording and communicating and also using their IT skills and digital prowess to successfully record their journey through their investigation.

So all roads, lead to the RDS on Thurs Jan 12th. The children will have an early start as all exhibitors must have their display in place by 9.30am on the day! Details were sent home before Christmas and a reminder will be sent home again when school re-opens on Monday January 9th.

Dedicated RDS Primary Science Fair Judges will be present on the day to visit the stand and meet the children, learn about their projects and provide feedback. Every student will receive a certificate of participation and each group will receive a special award trophy to keep as a memento. Judges feedback and the presentation of the award trophies to each group will begin at 2.30pm.

The Parents’ Association are funding the cost of the bus for this special event – many thanks to the Piercestown Parents’ Association – this is greatly appreciated.

We look forward to this event very much. What a great start to 2017 this will be!
