Art Exhibition 2019 makes the Wexford People!

This year’s Annual Art Exhibition, which was featured in the local newspaper,  was officially opened on Wednesday 3rd April. There was great excitement in the run up to this event as each and every pupil saw their artwork put on display for all to admire. As usual, there was huge variety with pieces from every strand of the Visual Arts curriculum – painting, drawing, construction, clay and printing. 3rd class had their 3D lighthouses on display with real working light bulbs – an integration of art, science (electricity) and geography, while 2nd class had made musical instruments, integrating art, science (sound) and music!

The Art Exhibition was officially opened by local artist, musician and poet, Helen Gaynor. Helen was astounded by the standard of art on display and talked at length about many of the pieces she had seen. Each child mentioned was delighted to hear their artwork praised. Helen spoke also about the importance of having an idea and going on to develop that idea, bringing it to life using a selected medium. She was delighted to see the children’s creativity being encouraged. There was a lovely atmosphere and everybody enjoyed the evening.

Many thanks to the Piercestown Parents’ Association who were on hand on the night to provide refreshments for everybody.

SNAG 2019 – Comórtas Selfie

This year, for fun we are tried to incorporate the home, environment and technology through a new competition called ‘Comórtas Selfie’. This saw our pupils take the ‘selfie challenge ‘ by taking a selfie  with some Gaeilge and sending it into a dedicated email address. While out and about the idea was to keep your eyes peeled for some signs ‘as Gaeilge’ and take a photo. They were then put on display on the ‘Seachtain na Gaeilge’ noticeboard.

We have included just a small selection in our slideshow for you to view.  Remember, there is more Gaeilge in the environment that we probably are even aware of.

World Purple Day March 26th

March 26th was a very special day for Ms. Walsh, Ms. Taylor, Lena and the Junior Infant’s of Piercestown N.S. as we celebrated World Purple Day 2019.

Purple day is celebrated all over the world every year. Purple Day is an international effort dedicated to increasing the awareness about epilepsy worldwide. Ms. Walsh, Ms. Taylor, Lena and all of the boys and girls in Junior Infants wore purple on Wednesday to show their support – in fact, many of our staff members were spotted wearing purple for the day too!!

The Junior Infants had a great day in their purple outfits, blowing purple bubbles and even had tasty purple treats. We were busy exploring our new Tranquility Garden, testing out the new wobble bridge and spinning seat. Great fun was had by all raising awareness for an important cause – why not check out our video and see for yourselves!
