Christmas Service 2014 Thursday 18th Dec 11.30am

The Christmas Service for the boys and girls of Piercestown N.S. will take place tomorrow Thursday  18th Dec. at 11.30am in the Church. This centres around the key message of Christmas and sees the Junior Infants assist in miming that wonderful story of the birth of Jesus. Throughout the mime, boys and girls from senior infants to 6th class will perform an array of pieces of poetry, music and song singing. Many thanks to Ms. Quirke for co-ordinating this event and all of the staff for preparing the children.

All parents and family members and friends are welcome to join us. This is a lovely opportunity to take some time out of the hustle and bustle of Christmas.

Bring on the Batteries – Did you use up any batteries over the Christmas period?

batteries weeepledge

In keeping with our Green School status, the Green School committee would like to remind all families about the importance of recycling batteries.

Piercestown N.S. are registered with weeepledge.ie . This free battery recycling programme not only offers a means of recycling for the children but also offers opportunities for schools who engage in the programme to win some prizes for the school.

Furthermore, by recycling batteries funds are raised for the LauraLynn Children’s Hospice in Ireland. Further information about the LauraLynn hospice is available on http://www.lauralynn.ie

There’s two good reasons to get recycling those batteries. So bring on those batteries. Wee recycling boxes are located at the Green School noticeboard at the entrance of the school.

Fun at the Bazaar

christmas-bazaar

After many months of hard work and dedication by the Parents’ Association, the Bazaar took place on Sunday 7th December. By all accounts, a great day was had by all. There was a variety of activities for all ages from getting your nails and hair done, to winning bottles on the bottle stand, purchasing reindeer food, shopping for arts and crafts, playing mini golf to bidding in an auction for rugby tickets. 5th and 6th class added a new dimension to the bazaar with their X factor performance on stage of some of their Hallelujah repertoire and some Christmas carols. The day was finished off with the main raffle, the door prize and the raffle on the day. Overall, the day was a huge success with a wonderful atmosphere. Many thanks to each and every member of the Parents’ Association for all of their hard work and to all of those who attended and supported the bazaar on the day. All funds raised go to the school to maintain and continue the wonderful learning experiences at Piercestown N.S.

Applications for Active School Committee 2014 2015

active-schools-flagAt the start of the year, Piercestown N.S. completed step 1 on the road to becoming an Active School by registering their interest. Step 2 involves convening a committee. As with the Green School Committee, this committee will be comprised of teachers, children and parents. Such is the interest in the Active Committee that Ms. Walsh has designed an application form for all interested parties from 4th-6th class to complete. The deadline for the applications is this coming Friday 12th December.

Keep an eye on the blog to see who the successful applicants are.

Similar to the Green School Committee, we require the presence of two parents on the Active Committee also. If you are interested in assisting us on our journey towards becoming an officially recognised Active School please contact Ms. Walsh or Siobhán on 0539158854 in the coming day or email the school on piercestownns@eircom.net

For further information on becoming an Active School go to www.activeschoolflag.ie/home.html

Best of luck to all applicants. Watch this space for the committee to be announced before the Christmas break. The first meeting of the Active School Committee will take place early in the New Year.

4 more sleeps until the Piercestown Bazaar 2014

With just 4 more sleeps until the bazaar, last minute preparations are well under way.

All remaining raffle tickets need to be returned asap. Bottles and chocolates are still being collected for the bottle stands. Homebaking on the day itself (Sunday) would be greatly appreciated for the cake stands.

There will be something for everyone on the day with lots of fun to be had! Don’t miss out.

Many thanks to the Parents’ Association for their Trojan efforts. It is greatly appreciated.

Attention Holy Communion Class – Enrolment Sunday 30th November

communion

Many thanks to all of those who were available to attend tonight’s meeting with regard to the journey towards receiving the Sacrament of First Confession and Holy Communion.

The first part of this journey begins at mass this Sunday Nov 30th at 10am. This will see your child present themselves and their Enrolment Certificate as their commitment on their spiritual journey for the year ahead. This enrolment ceremony which marks the first step in preparation for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion ties in nicely with the first Sunday of Advent, when we begin our preparations for Christmas also.

Enrolment certificates were distributed tonight at the meeting. Those unable to make it will have their enrolment certificate sent home with their child during school this week.

Many thanks to Fr. O’Reilly and Michael Foley for hosting this evenings meeting.

A huge thank you to Mrs. Deirdre Newport who will assist the children through all steps of their preparation towards this very special Sacrament.
