Parent Teacher Meeting 2015 – 2016

Paren-teacher-metting-photo

Parent teacher meetings this year are schedule to take place earlier than usual.

This will give teachers and parents the opportunity  to meet early on in the year to discuss any concerns/ ideas that they may wish to bring to the attention of the teacher.

The dates chosen are Monday 30th November and Wednesday 2nd December.

We will be in contact in the coming weeks to notify people of their times/dates so that sufficient notice is given to organise your diaries.

We look forward to meeting you on the day. In the meantime, should any issue arise, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Working together as a partnership is the key to your child’s success at school.

Chess Club – Every Monday 3-4pm until Christmas

chess

With the very strong tradition of chess at Piercestown N.S., we are delighted to introduce the new ‘After school chess club’. At a cost of just €3 per child, an expert chess player will be on hand every week to teach the children the tricks of the game and some master moves.

The class will be capped at a maximum of 20 children in order to ensure that each child gets appropriate tuition. The chess club will begin on Monday 12th of October and run right up until Christmas.

As this is a new initiative in Piercestown N.S., we look forward to watching the ‘chess club’ develop over the coming term.

For those chess addicts please find more information of upcoming local chess events on the chess for all website http://chessforall.net/

There are a number of events coming up for primary school kids the first being 11th October and the next being run on the 8th November by ourselves

Beginning of Year Service – Thursday 15th Oct 11.30am

I am special God loves me

Thursday 15th October, will see the boys and girls and staff of Piercestown N.S. mark the beginning of the new school year 2015-2016 with a service in St. Martin’s Church.

You are most welcome to join us on the day for some prayer, song and time for reflection.

In a particular way, we welcome the new children and staff at Piercestown N.S.

We look forward to seeing you on the day and thank Fr. O’ Reilly for giving us his time and efforts in preparing for this special service.

Standardised Testing Dates – May 17th and May 19th 2016

 put this on your calendar

In keeping with DES regulations, standardised literacy and numeracy testing will take place in May 2016. It is essential for assessment purposes that ALL children be present for these tests. These specific standardised tests include 1st class to 6th class.

Last year, a number of children were absent due to holidays. Therefore, we would like to give substantial notice to people so that if at all possible they can avoid booking holidays during this testing period.

Standardised testing will take place on May 17th and May 19th 2016.

Please put these important dates into your diary/calendar.

Obviously, if children are sick this is an exception to the rule.

Many thanks for your understanding and co-operation with the above matter.

Kind regards,

Laura Walsh

Principal

Sing Out Loud for 4th-6th

Sing out Loud

This year sees the boys and girls from 4th- 6th accompanied by their teachers take part in Wexford’s very own ‘Sing out Loud’  performance.

The children are privileged to take to the stage in the National Opera House on Thursday 26th November for the performance of a lifetime.

In order to prepare, the children are busy rehearsing with their class teachers in school.

However it would be important to practice outside of school also to give their best efforts on the night.

GOAL Jersey Day 9th October

GOAL Jersey day

We have all been witness to the harrowing scenes of the people of Syria over the past number of months.

In order to assist with their plight, Piercestown N.S.will take part in GOAL jersey day on Oct. 9th. This involves all children bringing €1 to school and wearing a jersey of their choice.

With rugby world cup and soccer season in full flight  and the GAA season just ending, the school is bound to be awash with a variety of jerseys in every colour and style.

What jersey will you wear?

A Minutes Silence Sept 25th 12pm

minute

A minute silence will be held at Piercestown N.S. tomorrow Fri 25th Sept. to honour those who suffered loss in the Great Famine of 1845-1852.

This reminds the children of the suffering and experiences endured by our ancestors.

We are also asked to reflect and think of those in the world suffering from famine and poverty today.

This initiative will be held in many schools nation wide and is organised by the Dept. of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.

Skippy John left a great impression!

skipping for life

Last Thursday saw Piercestown N.S. get active once again by having a Skipping Workshop.

Arriving from the UK, Skippy John had everyone jumping and skipping all day long and taught the boys and girls lots of skipping tricks.

The day was completed with a skipping show for parents to marvel at.

Check out this weeks People Paper for a full page of photographs of our experience and remember ‘Walk, Run, Jump or Skip, Come on Piercestown Let’s Get Fit’
