As you are aware, the safety of your children is our priority. As a staff, it is our duty to analyse the safety concerns every year and bring in new procedures if deemed appropriate to improve safety standards and remove hazards. Your children may have explained to you our new procedure for lining up in the morning and at break times.
The class lines have been relocated to remove hazards such as walls, window sills and flag poles.
The children practised this on Wednesday morning and are now aware of their new location.
New Morning Procedure
One other area of utmost concern to the staff was the school entry in the morning. Interestingly enough, all classes from senior infants to 6th class were able to identify something that is not ‘safe’ at 9.20am when I visited their rooms to discuss the new procedures. This reinforces the danger that exists, when the children are so aware of it.
Therefore the new morning procedures are as follows:
It is important for us to emphasise to you that this new procedure is for health and safety reasons. We pride ourselves in our open door policy and welcoming approach to all parents/guardians. Therefore, if for any reason you wish to speak to your child’s teacher you are still most welcome to make your way in to the school.
With the closing ceremony taking place in the Olympics last night and the Rose of Tralee taking place tonight, these are signs that the holidays are coming to an end. We hope that you have enjoyed the summer and have had a good rest.
We look forward to the return of all staff and children on Wednesday 31st August 2016.
A very special welcome to our new Junior Infants who will start ‘big school’ for the first time!
We would also like to wish the 6th class of 2015-2016 the very best of luck over the coming days as they began their journey through secondary school.

The school calendar for 2016 2017 is available on our website under the ‘Calendar ‘ heading should people need to check holiday dates and/or special occasions such as Holy Communion/ Confirmation. We will input additional information as soon as it becomes available.
Should you require any further information please don’t hesitate to contact the school on 053-9158854 or piercestownns@eircom.net
The summer holidays are in full swing and August has arrived. There is still plenty of time for summer fun but a gentle reminder that school re-opens for all children on Wednesday 31st August at 9.20am. We look forward to welcoming you all back!
But until then, enjoy the fresh air, long evenings, the Olympics, Wexford camogie matches and much more! Loch Garman Abú!

The staff and management of Piercestown National School would like to wish all of the boys and girls a happy summer and a well earned break.
We look forward to welcoming you back after your summer break.
Should you require any urgent information, please contact the school by email on piercestownns@eircom.net and we will get back to you at our earliest convenience.
Kind regards, Laura Walsh
