Love was in the Air

Love was in the air in Piercestown N.S. on February 14th last with lots of arts and crafts taking place.  Some students created beautiful handmade pieces of jewellery under the direction of Mrs. Caldicott. No doubt there were some very happy recipients when the gifts were brought home!

Chess Success for Piercestown N.s.

The top of the leader board in our annual in-school chess competition headed off as a senior team and a junior team to represent their school at the annual interschool chess competition in St. Joseph’s Primary school in Gorey on Wednesday 13th February.  And it must be said their ‘chess prowess’ showed. After playing many games, the Junior team secured first place to bring home gold medals. The senior team were also making ‘the right moves’ only to be pipped at the post by half a point for first place by the host school themselves. Congratulations to both teams and many thanks to the parents who drove them to this much loved event. Chess is still alive and kicking in Piercestown N.S. Many thanks to Ms. Hearne who keeps our tradition alive year after year.

First Confession in 2nd class

Second class received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time at their First Confession ceremony which took place in St. Martin’s church on Wednesday 13th February 2019. It was a very special ceremony for them during which they told the story of Zacchaeus and sang sweetly from the altar. Afterwards there was tea, coffee and home baking for the adults in the school P.E. hall and treats for the children, provided by the parents association and parents of 1st class children. Many thanks to everyone who made the night so special for them.

Santa Train Trip

On Monday 17th December Junior and Senior Infants were kitted out in all of their Christmas gear to head off on their annual Christmas excursion. This year saw the boys and girls meet ‘Ellie the Elf’ on their tour. ‘Ellie the Elf’ talked to the children about the magic of Christmas and told them that the Christmas train was powered not by diesel but by ‘Christmas spirit’. Anytime the train appeared to slow down the children would have to create as much ‘Christmas spirit’ as they could to keep those wheels turning! This was an easy task for the boys and girls in Ms. Taylor and Ms. Quirke’s class, with them blasting out Christmas songs and cheers along their journey. The tour included a stop at ‘Shake Dog’ for a tasty hot chocolate and cookies and was completed by a visit to the Junior Library section, where Ms. Walsh treated the boys and girls to the story of ‘Mrs. Pepperpot’s Christmas’. Many thanks to the parents who accompanied us on the day. The children were full of Christmas spirit and excitement and it added to our build up to the holidays.
