Piercestown N.S. where learning and growing are nurtured!
In keeping with the spirit of Seachtain na Gaeilge, we will be hosting a Lá Gaeilge on Monday March 16th where the children will be involved in several activities to promote the Irish language.
As part of this, we have decided to hold a small fundraiser for the school. This requires all children and staff to wear some element of the Irish colours – green, white or gold. We would ask that children would make the small donation of €1 per child.
Happy Dressing Up!
Let’s see how many tri colours can be spotted at Piercestown N.S.!
We are currently offering private guitar lessons to children as an extracurricular activity to take place outside of school hours. The lessons are being offered by Mr. Tadhg Foran. The cost of the lesson will be €4 per lesson and take place for a duration of 10 weeks. Lessons are aimed at beginners.
A note has been sent home with all of the information for those interested in 3rd-6th class.
Lessons will usually take place on Tuesdays for 3rd/4th class and Thursday for 5th/6th class. This week however, will see the first lessons on Wednesday and Thursday due to St. Patrick’s Day.
Best of luck to all involved.
Time to Spring clean those closets again as Piercestown N.S. prepares for another fundraiser by the Parents’ Association. This will see you clear out your closets while simultaneously making money for your school.
What do we want?
We would really appreciate clothes, in good condition that have been washed and cleaned and are recyclable. For every 10kg of clothing we will receive €5.50
When do we want it?

Piercestown N.S. – where learning and growing are nurtured!
World Book Day takes place on March 5th.
Piercestown N.S are gearing up towards an eventful day with some classes already taking on World Book Day with great gusto.
Miss Brown and 4th class are going to dress up as one of their favourite characters from a story. This all has to be done using their own clothes from home (no expense required). Ms. Walsh is so impressed with their enthusiasm she has committed to a prize for the best costume!
5th class and Mrs Barrett will visit the infant classes to where the boys and girls will buddy up with an infant and read them a story! What a lovely idea.
Ms. Hearne’s class are taking World Book Day very seriously by emphasising reading and having only reading homework for the week to mark World Book Day.
Ms. Walsh is busy setting up a World Book Day noticeboard near the entrance of the school. Stop by and have a look at some of our favourite quotes about reading! This display will be interactive also allowing the children to write up the name of their favourite book and/or their favourite author! Vouchers to the value of €1.50 will be distributed to all children in the school to be used before the 19th March 2015.
Why not take 5 minutes with a book and a mug of coffee is you can and mark World Book Day for yourself!
In the words of Dr. Seuss “The more things that you read, the more things you will know , the more that you learn, the more places you’ll go!”
