The final countdown of 2014 2015 – the week ahead!

The sun is shining and holiday time is almost upon us.

At the end of my first year as Principal at Scoil Náisiúnta Baile an Phiarsaigh, I wish to thank everybody from staff, to parents, Parents’ Association, to children and the Board of Management for their support and kindness throughout the year. It has been a busy but productive year and we have seen the traditions continue and some new initiatives introduced also.

Here are a few reminders of the week ahead:

Monday- Rounders finals at 11.30am for the boys in Tagmhon, Rounders final for the girls at 1pm ….fingers crossed for more silverware

Tuesday morning – 10.30am End of Year Service in St. Martin’s Church

Tuesday night- Board of Management meeting 8pm

Thursday afternoon – 2pm Graduation ceremony – we bid 6th class a fond farewell

Thursday night – 8pm Parents’ Association meeting

Friday – School is out for summer!!!!

I wish you all a happy, healthy and safe summer and we look forward to seeing you in the new school year 🙂

Tomorrow,  will see Piercestown N.S. being awarded a Blue Star flag for their participation and excellence in the Blue Star programme.

Come along to here all about it, enjoy some music and  witness our new award being raised high in the sky!

We are delighted to be joined on the day by Wexford Mayor George Lawlor, along with special invited guests Ms. Lisa McDonald and Mr. Tony Dempsey!

Congratulations to 6th class for all their hard work and effort!

Sports Update – County Finals here we come! Mon 15th June Wexford Park

Congratulation to the boys and girls of Piercestown and Murrintown National Schools who have secured their places in the Rackard league County finals this coming Mon June 15th in Wexford Park.

All the hard work and training has paid off and silverware is within reaching distance if things go right on the night! It is a privilege to be in a double header final.

Throw in at 6.30pm for the girls Piercestown versus Castlebridge followed by the boys final Piercestown versus Gorey CBS.

So if you are free on Monday, why not come along and give your support!  What better way to spend a Monday evening!

Many thanks to the parents for their endless support in driving to the matches all year.

Art Exhibition – Tuesday 9th June 7pm

Are you free this Tuesday at 7pm? Are you a fan of art?

Come along to see a selection of the art that your children have produced over the course of this school year.

Our annual art exhibition is open to all and there will be refreshments on the night by thr Parents’ Association.

We are delighted to have Helen Gaynor, local artist, with us on the night to open our exhibition!

Reminder – Welcome Morning for New Infants 2015 2016

ready for school

A welcome morning for new infants will take place this Wednesday June 10th from 9.30am until 12pm.

A coffee morning will be hosted by the Parents’ Association in the hall for the parents.

This will be a morning of fun, song, story and dance where the children will get to meet their new classmates, their teacher and principal and visit their new classroom.

We look forward to welcoming the new boys and girls to ‘big school’!

Transfer from Primary to Post Primary

This Monday 8th June will see 6th class have an afternoon of preparation for their transfer from Primary to Post Primary school.

This will be delivered this year by a team from Student Enrichment Serivces.

Sports Update Fri 5th June

Rounders

Congratulations to both the boys and girls teams that were successful in their quarter finals this week. This sees them progress to semi final stage. Well done to Mrs. Caldicott and the children.

Rackard League hurling and Camogie

Huge congratulations to Ms. Hearne and the camogie girls who have secured a place in the final in Wexford Park for the final of their tournament! Time to get the flags out! Date to be confirmed.

The boys are out in full force of the semi final versus Crossabeg in Taghmon this Monday June 8th at 3.45pm. Best of luck to the boys.

The B team are continuing well with their next match against Kilmuckridge today at home at 2pm. Best of luck to all involved.

School Tour Season

School tour season is with 1st class being the first to head off on Tuesday 2nd  to Let’s Go down in Waterford. They will be followed by Junior Infants to Secret Valley on the 9th June, 3rd and 4th class to Pirates Cove on the 10th June, 2nd class  to Coral Leisure Centre Arklow on 12th June, 5th class  to Kilkenny castle and Dunmore Caves on 16th June, 6th class  to the Surf Shack in Curracloe on the 17th , Senior Infants to Woodfield on the 18th June. We wish them all safe and fun filled trip!

Sports update – Rackard League and Rounders

Rackard league has reached the knockout rounds with boys boys and girls securing places for themselves in the semi finals. Quarter final stages saw Piercestown defeat Rathangan in their homeground after a tough game. The boys travelled to Taghmon where they took on St. Aidan’s. After a tight first half, Piercestown proved to be too strong for the Enniscorthy boys in the second half and our semi final place was secured.The camogie semi final will take place on Thursday 4th June at 3.15pm in Taghmon versus Rathnure. The best of luck to Ms. Hearne and the girls!The hurling semi final will take place on Monday 8th June at 3.45pm in Taghmon versus Crossabeg. Best of luck to the boys. The B team are also through to knockout stage and are awaiting their next fixture versus Kilmuckridge.

Rounders has also progressed to knockout stages with Mrs. Caldicott and her teams sceuring places for both boys and girls in the quarter finals. Quarter finals for the girls take place at home this Tuesday versus Raheen at 1pm. The boys travel to Newbawn on Wednesday to their quarter final at 1pm. Let’s keep those Martin’s colours flying!
