Summer Picnic
Junior Infants had a well-earned picnic in the sun with their 6th Class friends yesterday. It was treats, ice-creams and plenty of laughs all round today for this special bunch. The children worked hard all year and deserved to kick their heels up and enjoy the rewards. What an amazing way to end the most amazing year!

On Your Marks…!
School Tour to Woodfield
The sun was shining, the sunscreen was on, the lunches packed and the excitement was mighty! It could only mean one thing…SCHOOL TOUR! Junior Infants headed to Woodfield today to enjoy a fun filled day. We milked the cows, watered the veggies, make scarecrows, blew bubbles, stacked the turf and much more. What an amazing day we had.
We are learning about the Emergency Services!
Q: Why was the firefighter always carrying a calendar with him?
A: Just in case he had to save the day.
Mrs. Larkin’s brother, Davy, saved the day in Junior Infants when he popped by to tell the children all about being a firefighter. He showed Junior Infants all the equipment and uniform items they would need to fight a fire. We timed some of our friends to see if they could get ready in under 5 minutes! We have some future firefighters on our hands as they pulled it off in under 1…with a little help! We spent the afternoon saying our Firefighter rhymes, identifying dangers in our homes and playing Fire poles and Ladders! We bet Davy needed a nap after all the questions!
Q: When are firefighters best at getting out of the fire station quickly in the middle of the night?
A: When they are FAST asleep.

The Church
Look at Junior Infants paying St. Martin’s Church a visit.
We love blending!
Junior Infants took advantage of the fine weather and headed outside for some blending work this morning. We have some amazing spellers in our midst!

Ipad Time!
Junior Infants thoroughly enjoyed blending using the Spelling Bugs app and continuing their number work using Numberblocks. They were so diligent they even got to spend time exploring the numerous other apps as a reward.

BEST DAY EVER!!!!!!
Junior Infants worked diligently for the month of March and were awarded a PIZZA PARTY for being Class of the Month. They had a great afternoon stuffing themselves with pizza, popcorn and treats while watching SpongeBob SquarePants!

Ireland, Ireland,
Together standing tall.
The boys and girls of Piercestown National School were honoured to be able to catch a glimpse of the 6 Nations and Triple Crown in school today. Rory Wilson Senior Team Operations Executive at Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) and past pupil of Piercestown National School answered our many questions and gave us the amazing opportunity to take some photos too!
Take a look through the slideshow below to see Junior infants and the impressive silverware!
65 Roses Day
14th April was the National Awareness Day for Cystic Fibrosis in Ireland. Today, Monday 17th April, we participated in spreading awareness for Cystic Fibrosis and celebrated with our friend Savannah. It will be our first year marking this in our school and as purple is also the colour synonymous with this day, we invited the children to wear purple. Junior infants marked this day of awareness and celebrated our friend in style!
In school, we have decided to create our own 65 Roses Challenge and we completed 65,000 steps as a school community on this day…we may have even surpassed the amount! One lap of our field has been calculated by Mrs. Larkin as being 320 steps. So, Junior infants alone covered 9,600 steps. The rest of the school joined in and covered the entire 65000 steps. Therefore, all our classes worked together to complete the challenge on the Monday, kicking off term three being active straight away! Well done everyone and congratulations Savannah and family for helping us spread awareness of Cystic Fibrosis.
Happy Easter
The Easter Bunny hopped by the Junior Infant classroom to leave a special treat for all the amazing, hardworking students on their last day of Term. He even left some evidence of his visit all over their desks! It was smiles and Easter craft all round and they even managed to save their chocolate treats for home.
Wishing you all a very HAPPY EASTER. Enjoy the well-earned break.

Lots of Socks for World Down Syndrome Day
Junior Infants were ‘rockin’ their funky/colourful/odd socks on March 21st to mark World Down Syndrome Day. The theme this year ws “With us, not for us.” For more information on World Down Syndrome Day go to https://downsyndrome.ie/whats-happening/world-down-syndrome-day/

Seachtain na Gaeilge
Bhí spraoi againn i rith Seachtain na Gaeilge! We had a jammed pack week with plenty of fun filled and cultural activities to mark the seachtain. We took part in a class tráth na gceist, learned to irish dance and of course we celebrated with our annual Tionóíl…attended by some special Spring guests!
Camán Everybody
Once again, Piercestown N.S. were delighted to welcome some special guests today, Thursday 09th March, to continue the Camán Everybody Programme – a programme aimed at introducing the fundamental skills of hurling from a young age. Among those present were Kevin Waters (Chairman of St. Martin’s Club) Cian Waters, Séamus Casey (Games Promotion Officer) and Willie Clancy who made the hurls.
Ms. Walsh welcomed back Vanessa Kirby Somers, member of the Kirby Family, who are generously making an annual donation towards the cost of the hurls for the programme. This very kind gesture is to honour the memory of Vanessa’s brother, Michael Kirby, who was a past pupil of our school and an avid hurler. No doubt their generosity will lead to many of our boys and girls growing up to share the same passion for our national game as Michael did.

Happy Halloween
Ghosts and ghouls, witches and wizards, creepy clowns and deadly demons all gathered for some freaky fun at the St. Martin’s Centre on the last day before the Halloween break. They were joined by Anna, Elsa, Woody, Little Red Riding Hood, Mario, Luigi and many more as they paraded down to school, with the Active Motto still ringing in their ears – Walk, Run, Jump or Skip, Come On Piercestown, Let’s Get Fit! Junior Infants went on to have a great day in school, complete with Halloween games, disco dancing and tasty treats.
Ready for School
When I get ready to come to school,
I jump right out of bed,
I wash my face, brush my teeth,
Pull my clothes over my head.
I run down stairs, drink my milk,
And eat my breakfast so slow,
Then I wave good-bye as I walk down the street
I’m so happy that I can go.
