APRIL
Hot Lunches!
Yuck! Gross! I won’t eat that
This food looks like a run over rat
It’s green and gross, kind of icky,
It smells like a sewer and is really sticky
Nasty meat cooked half-way through
I think my face is turning blue
I think this bread is twelve years old.
The fries aren’t cooked, they’re still cold!
Elizabeth Walker
Thankfully Elizabeths’s version of events wasn’t what the children in Junior Infants experienced when they received their very first hot school lunch! It was (almost) smiles all round and a huge thumbs up from them all. Hopefully the novelty won’t wear off and we will be sending them home with full bellies each day!

SPRING LAMBS
We had two very special visitors in our school on Thursday 18th April. SNA/par-time farmer Pat kindly brought two of his newest additions in to see all the children. We asked Pat lots of questions and found out a lot of information about lambs!

MARCH 2024

SHROVE TUESDAY
Junior Infants had a great day on Pancake Tuesday sampling as many pancakes, loaded with toppings, as they could! They then turned their hand to flipping pancakes. There were a few casualties, but, worth it for the action shots!

LOVE IS IN THE AIR!
WINNER, WINNER, PIZZA DINNER!
Junior Infants only went and did it again! For the second time this year we have won Class of the Month! It was pjs at the ready for another fun-filled day. After a morning of hard work, which might have involved learning about melting chocolate in order to make hot chocolate (thank you Teresa for the tasty samples) the children were ready to kick back a little and enjoy the fruits of their labour. The iPads had been fully charged, just like the infants, and so we decided that instead of our usual handwriting, we would use the Sketchpad app to draw pizza! The children had a lot of fun experimenting with tools and colours to create the coolest drawings. They were ready for pizza by that stage and accompanied their lunch with a movie.

HANDA’S SURPRISE
Junior Infants couldn’t read Handa’s Surprise and not sample the delicious fruits that appeared in the book! The book is about a girl called Handa who places seven different fruits in her basket and carries them to her friend Akeyo’s house. On the journey some very cheeky animals help themselves, one by one, to the fruits! Handa is very surprised to find that her basket is full of tangerines by the time she reaches Akeyo’s house rather than the variety of fruits that she started with! Many of the children have never tasted a real mango, avocado or passion fruit and were very curious as to what they looked, smelt and tasted like. So, as a surprise, the children had their very own fruit tasting session! It would seem that getting hold of a guava is very tricky and despite Mrs Larkin’s searching! Despite this, the children were amazed at the beautiful colours and smells within the fruits. They were more than happy with the extra surprise at the end…an ice-pop containing many of the fruits they didn’t really like!
ST. BRIGID’S DAY
Junior Infants immersed themselves in the history and traditions of Saint Brigid today to celebrate her feast day. They were enthralled in the story of her cloak and loved decorating their own with colours and fabrics.

DECEMBER 2023
IT’S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!
Junior Infants enjoyed all the magic of Christmas this December. Along with the ordinary, everyday learning they got to enjoy the Carol Service rehearsal and big event on the evening of the 13th December, hot chocolate rewards and North Pole Aistear.
Wishing you all a very HAPPY CHRISTMAS and a wonderful NEW YEAR! We can’t wait for 2024!
NOVEMBER 2023
WINNER, WINNER, PIZZA DINNER!
Junior Infants worked diligently for the month of October and were awarded a PIZZA PARTY for being Class of the Month. They had a great afternoon stuffing themselves with pizza, popcorn and treats!

SCIENCE WEEK FUN!
I could tell you a great Science joke…but all the good ones Argon! So, why not check out some of the activities we got up to during the week instead.

OCTOBER 2023
FREAKY FRIDAY FUN!
We had the best fun on Freaky Friday!

MATHS WEEK
Why does algebra improve your dancing skills? Because you can use algo-rhythm. That is exactly what the students did to kick off Maths Week…we danced our socks off to Banana, Banana, Meatball! This was quickly followed up with Maths Stations with our 6th Class friends. We had a blast! The week was jam-packed with problems to solve, sweets to count and pumpkins to heft! We look forward to receiving some prizes for all our hard work at our prizegiving ceremony.
Check out the photo carousel to see the Maths in action in our school.
JERSEY DAY
Many thanks to all who supported our recent fundraiser for Evan Jones and the Ronald McDonald charity. Here are our Junior Infant who happily donned their favourite jerseys and generously donated to this worthy cause.

30 DAYS HAS SEPTEMBER…
and we filled each and every one with fun! September is mostly about settling into school, developing routines, learning the rules and making new friends. However, we also managed to cover a great deal of the Curriculum and we hope you enjoy taking a behind the scenes look at the time we spent in Piercestown National School this month.
